Web Continues to Dominate Audience Growth

The web continues to dominate audience growth in news media. In the State of the Media 2012 report, it showed that from 2010 to 2011 web growth saw an increase of 17.2%.

Newspaper and magazines were the only media platforms to see a decrease in audience consumption. Newspapers lost 4%, magazines 0.05%.

What’s important in this study is that it doesn’t matter how users are getting their information online. Our society has and can access information really anywhere at anytime. As journalists we need to recognize this is not a shrinking phenomenon, it’s only going to grow from here.

When is the best time for you to publish your posts? Does this even matter?

Spring Ahead: Daylight Savings Time

Daylight Savings Time, in a way, marks the change toward spring and summer. The days are getting longer and soon the weather will add its warmth.

As a society, I wonder why every couple of months do we “spring ahead” and “fall back.” Wouldn’t it be easier just to maintain one set time?

According to timeanddate.com, “The invention of DST was mainly credited to William Willett in 1905 when he came up with the idea of moving the clocks forward in the summer to take advantage of the daylight in the mornings and the lighter evenings”1.

What do you think about Daylight Savings Time?
