I came across an article idea on Digital Journal assignment desk about how men are less likely to read the manual before calling tech support. After I read that I began to smile, because I know for me – I never read the manual. I’m not sure why I don’t – I guess I feel I can figure it out on my own. May be it’s just a guy thing where we want to look macho. Ha. Or may be it’s just that we have the idea that we really don’t need the manual.
So here comes Gadget Helpline, a tech support service based in the UK, to provide us with some facts stats on this topic:
Gadget Helpline analyzed 75,000 calls received between September and October of 2009 and discovered that it’s not just geeks that aren’t reading the manual. A full 64 percent of men and 24 percent of women calling into the line had not checked out the booklet that came with their computers or gadgets before picking up the phone.
I guess it wouldn’t hurt to put my ego down a couple times to just read the manual before diving into the task. I don’t know though, something tells me that I won’t.
Do you read theĀ manual?
