FCC changes Telemarketing “Robocall” Rules

The FCC changes telemarketing “Robocall” rules for cell phone and landlines. According to the FCC, in 2011 “Unwanted telemarketing calls and texts were consistently in the top three consumer complaint categories”1.

To address these complaints, the FCC made the following changes:

  • Telemarketers must get written or digital consent from the consumer before contacting.
  • Eliminating the ” established business relationship” exemption
  • Provide an “opt out” during each call so consumers can tell the telemarketer to stop calling.

Messages. Apple is revamping it’s communication software. iChat will be replaced with Messages. Messages, which is currently on iPhones, will allow you to send unlimited messages to iPhones, iPads, iPod Touch, and Macs that are running iOS 5. All conversations can be viewed on multiple devices. For example, if you started your conversation on your iPhone you can continue the conversation on your iPad or Mac – you’re not confined to a single device to continue or finish your conversation. Messages will still allow you to connect with AIM, Jabber, Google Talk, and Yahoo! Messenger accounts. If you don’t want to wait until the summer when Mountain Lion is released, you can download and try it out.

Notification Center. You’ll never miss a beat. Similar to how Growl for Mac works, notifications will alert you when you have a new email, instant message, friend request, etc. The notification banner will disappear so it will not be distracting while you work. In case you need a reminder, you can easily swipe to the left and see a full list of all your notifications

AirPlay Monitor. With Apple TV you can stream your computer onto your television. The best part is you don’t need any wires to do it.

Mountain Lion also improves iCloud, Notes, Reminder, and Security features. All information provided is from Apple.com.
