According to Mashable, Nielsen may include Xbox and iPad in their TV rating system.
I think this is an excellent idea and I would like to see this expanded even further. People are no longer just watching television, they’re doing something else along with watching television.
Television is becoming background noise and no longer has our full attention like it used to. Nielsen found “85% of tablet/smartphone owners use their device while watching TV at least once a month with 40% of them doing it daily.”
I know I find myself checking my iPhone while I’m watching a television show on Netflix. I don’t even own cable, I stream everything on my TV.
Back in December 2012, Nielsen and Twitter joined up to provide ratings that include social activity on the network. Nielsen says this will give ”TV networks and advertisers the real-time metrics required to understand TV audience social activity.”
Do you multitask when you watch television? Do you find yourself doing other things while watching television.
